Complete Hajj Checklist: Everything You Need Before Your Pilgrimage

11 July 2026Farha Travels

Preparing for the journey of a lifetime? This complete Hajj checklist walks Sri Lankan pilgrims through every document, vaccine, and item you need before you travel. Tick each box early, and travel with peace of mind.

Documents You Cannot Travel Without

Your paperwork comes first. Sort it months in advance to avoid last-minute stress.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. Your Hajj visa is issued through Saudi Arabia's official Nusuk platform — and it all starts with registration, which we cover in our guide on how to register for Hajj 2027 in Sri Lanka. Accommodation must be booked in licensed hotels and recorded on Nusuk Masar before the visa is granted. On arrival you receive your Nusuk Card, a smart ID holding your photo, passport details, medical records, and camp location. Without it, you cannot complete your rituals.

Keep this document checklist ready:

  • Valid passport (six months' validity) plus photocopies
  • Hajj visa via Nusuk
  • Confirmed Nusuk Masar accommodation booking
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Vaccination certificate
  • Medical fitness certificate

Vaccinations and Medical Fitness

Health rules protect you and everyone around you. Start these early, as some vaccines need time to take effect.

The meningococcal ACWY vaccine is mandatory for every pilgrim. Take it at least 10 days before arrival. The polysaccharide version is valid for three years; the conjugate version for five years. A polio dose is required if you are travelling from an affected region, and yellow fever proof is needed from prevalent areas.

Vaccine Requirement
Meningococcal ACWY Mandatory for all pilgrims
Polio Required from affected regions
Yellow Fever Required from prevalent regions
Seasonal flu Strongly recommended

You also need a signed medical certificate confirming you are fit for the physical demands of Hajj. Carry a note of your medical history and any regular medications too.

Ihram and Clothing Essentials

Ihram is both a sacred state and a set of garments. Pack thoughtfully so you can worship in comfort.

Men wear two plain white unstitched cloths. Women dress modestly in loose, simple clothing. Pack a little extra, as the days are long and warm.

Your ihram bag should include:

  • Two sets of ihram garments (men)
  • Modest, breathable clothing (women)
  • A wide belt or money pouch
  • Unscented soap and toiletries
  • Comfortable sandals or slippers
  • A small prayer mat and lightweight towel

Remember, once in ihram, avoid perfumed products. Keep everything unscented.

Everyday and Comfort Items

Small comforts make a big difference across busy days in Makkah and Madinah.

Pack a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, a hat or umbrella for shade, and any personal first-aid basics. A power bank keeps your phone and the Nusuk app charged. A small notebook of duas and a pocket Qur'an help you stay focused on worship.

Label your bags clearly and pack light. You will move often, and lighter luggage means an easier journey.

Financial Preparation

Sound money planning lets you focus fully on your ibadah. Prepare your finances as carefully as your bags.

Settle your Hajj package payment in advance and keep receipts. Carry some Saudi Riyals in cash for small purchases, along with a travel card as backup. Set aside a modest emergency fund. Before you leave, clear any debts you can and seek forgiveness from those around you, as our tradition encourages.

Keep this simple money checklist:

  • Package fully paid, with receipts
  • Saudi Riyals in cash
  • Backup travel or debit card
  • Small emergency reserve

A Calm Heart Is the Best Preparation

Beyond the checklist, prepare your heart. Learn the rituals, memorise key duas, and set your intention sincerely for the sake of Allah.
